Studio Master Class - Impressionist Landscape Painting – Soft Pastels

With the use of photographs, students will study the landscape paintings of the American and French Impressionists and discover the techniques they used to make them master works. Instructor demonstrations and lectures will teach students how to create different levels of distance within the landscape using color, perspective, detail and thoughtfully developed compositions.

Beginning students will learn impressionist painting techniques through replication the works of the Impressionist Masters. More advanced students will will work from their own photographs, practicing and exploring various techniques with individualized advice and focused direction from the instructor. Students will complete this workshop with a finished painting or paintings. You can see Doug's work at http://douglashousefineart.com

Although students may bring their own pastel supplies, I do recommend my Pastel Kits it contains all of the colors and the quality of paper that will lead to the success of this workshop. Students will also need to bring a drawing board, unless the art center has drawing boards for their use.

Students can order the Pastel Kit directly from Utrecht Art Supply, as these kits are custom made for the workshop. These kits include a 48 color set of Nu Pastels, 4 sheets of 16” X 20” 4 ply museum grade paper, blending sticks and fixative.

The cost of the kit is about $75.00 and that price includes tax. These kits are optional but recommended.

For Crew/HS/Adults

Zentangle:

Connie Souba has enjoyed artistic pursuits all of her life.  She fondly remembers doodling elaborate designs all over her grade school notebooks.  Later while earning her BS in Interior Design and Related Arts from the University of Minnesota, her interests blossomed as she developed lettering (fonts and typeface), sketched homes and drafted architectural plans.  Soon after graduating, she moved to Wisconsin Rapids where she was an Interior Design Instructor through the Mid-State Technical College Adult Education Program and opened CLS Interiors.  Over the years, Connie has taught a variety of art classes, exhibited at art fairs, and sold her work through gift shops in Wisconsin.  Her calligraphy can be found in Colorado, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.  Connie’s love of pen and ink continues with her newest passion, Zentangle, and she can’t wait to share it with others!  Zentangle is the use of repetitive, basic pattern drawing.  It’s easy and simple, yet beautiful and restful. This art form increases focus, boosts self-esteem, and relaxes the mind.  Come be inspired by an enthusiastic, energizing, and creative artist.

Connie completed her training to become a CZT (Certified Zentangle Teacher) while studying with the two creators of this art form, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, at their Providence, Rhode Island Certification Class. She is not a Certified Zentangel Teacher.

What is with all of the creative journaling buzz?!

You are curious and would love to try it, but who has the time for one more thing? And where do you even begin? With this class, of course!

In this mini-workshop, you will get a colorful and creative introduction to creative journaling (this means LOTS of inspiration and fun, hands-on techniques) that will help you get started and work your pages in stages, allowing you to get your creative fix on a daily basis, in short amounts of time at home or on the go!

Unlike other forms of artwork, creative

journaling is all about the doing and the process,

and not about the outcome. Anything goes!

And the more imperfect, the better!

Be forewarned - creative journaling is

addictive and very therapeutic!
