*All registrations must be received prior to class start date.

Registrations may be made over the phone, in person or through the mail.

Payment must accompany registrations. Registration fees will be refunded if the CVA cancels a class. If you cancel, refunds will be given 10 days prior to the 1st class, less a $5 processing fee. No refund will be given if you cancel within 10 days. Photos may be taken for promo; your permission is assumed unless you notify us.

Parent/Child Pottery Crew with Diane Graveen

Monday, May 25 - July 6

The CVA is excited to be able to offer this pottery class for parents and children! The CVA received funding to purchase a new kiln to aid the Pottery Department. Support for this project was provided through the

Caroline S. Mark Legacy Fund of the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin.

 

  

 

Family Art Journals with Krista Vendetti

 

Date: Saturday, June 20

Description:

A family-friendly art journaling workshop designed to teach the basics of this

versatile art form. Come learn how to make your own art journal and techniques

on how to fill it with artwork and writings that can be cherished for years to come.

 

Different from scrap booking, diaries and sketchbooks, art journaling combines

mixed media methods, photos and mementos to create a unique book that is 100% you.

 

This workshop will cover the basics of how to make/bind a journal (and which commercially made journals work best), materials to use in your journal, journal

prompts, and how you can use art journaling for daily memories (travel, school

memories, nature field books, school projects).

 

Materials and handouts provided, but an extra unlined journal is recommended.

 

 

Printing with Petals with Cathy Matel

Date: Thursday, June 25

5:30 - 7:30pm

Class location: CVA Pottery Studio Room

Description:

In this class we will create beautiful and unique silk scarves in a single color

using resist and attract techniques to get different shades of the same color in

designs created by nature. The student may choose from a variety of natural,

botanical dyes for the base color of their project.

Sessions will take place alongside the Lake Effect - New Work by Valerie Berkely exhibit in the Main Gallery

 

 

 

Description:

Students receive help with painting from start to finish or receive a

professional critique on how to improve the painting.

so many features, finding the right camera for you can be a daunting task. Here's how to

get the best camera for your photographic needs and budget.

8 Steps to Great Photos with Barbara Smith

Class location: CVA Studio Room

Pay pre-register $98   (min of 2 students required)   

 

Description:

Learn how to make more compelling pictures by following the 8 Steps to Great Photos.

We will start with how the camera works, how to navigate the menu, camera set-up, and various frequently used functions and features. Then we'll explore the 8 Steps to Great Photos, which include taking control of the camera and learning to se and think like a photographer. You will also find out how to avoid the most common mistakes made by beginners. Please bring your fully charged camera and its instruction manual with you to class. All camera types are welcome.

 

You'll learn how to:

- identify and describe different kinds of light, and set the exposure accordingly

- select appropriate shooting modes for the depth of field or motion effect desired

- apply several photographic techniques and compositional principles to photos

 

 

 

 

 

Special Requirements

- Participants need to download their manuals: in your browser, type in your camera's make and the model number, plus the words: manual download. A few cameras still include a manual with purchase, but most have only a start-up brochure, which is not sufficient. Bring your manual and camera to each class.

The Magic of Photoshop with Barbara Smith

Description:

Photoshop is the most powerful image editing program and this course covers the essentials for photographers. Learn how to edit your photos from start to finish: organize and review your images in Bridge, enhance them in Camera Raw, and edit them in detail in Photoshop. Find out how much editing is enough or too much, what artifacts are and how to avoid them, and how to prepare photos for e-mail, web, and print. We will be using Photo CS6, but the basic techniques covered can be used with Photoshop versions CS3 through CS6.

 

CVA Mac lap tops have CS6 and are available for use!

 

Special Requirements

- Participants need a basic understanding of computer use: including handling folders/document and using a mouse.

Botanical Prints with Cathy Matel

Workshop Date: Thursday, June 18

Description:

Create a unique scarf using leaves, flowers, and other botanical elements. You may

work on black or white silk and you will also have the opportunity to vat dye

your piece to obtain different colors.
