Call for Artists
Midwest Seasons
an annual juried exhibit since 1990, formerly
entitled Midwest Winter
on exhibit: january 16 - march 1, 2009
Inviting your entry in two and three-dimensional
art: photography, painting, drawing, printmaking,
papermaking, sculpture, fibers, textiles,
ceramics, metals, glass, wood and mixed media.
General Exhibit Proposal Guidelines
The mission of the CVA is to "promote and sustain the creation and the appreciation of the visual arts in the greater Wausau area". We are proud of our reputation as a recognized art center and we are dedicated to promoting local and regional artists in our Gallery. We are pleased that you wish to submit your work for jury committee evaluation.
Proposals
Proposals should be presented on standard size paper (8-1/2" x 11") and sheets should not be stapled or bound together. Please do not include folders, binders, or other elaborate paper holders.
Please provide the following:
- Name, address, phone number and e-mail address

Slides or CD of work.
Slides should include the artist’s name, title of the work,
media,
size (HWD), and a red
dot on the lower left corner. Digital images of work must be
saved
to a CD in JPG format.
Please format the pictures so they are large enough for us to
view, but not too large
to open (approx. 700-500pixels, 72ppi)
- Please include a list that describes each submission with its title, composition and price.*
- A résumé listing art education and prior shows or exhibits. (No formal art training or past exhibitions are required to exhibit.)
- Copies of news articles highlighting you or your work (optional).
- Artist Statement
- Include a self addressed stamped envelope with sufficient postage for return of your submission. Submissions dropped off at the Center will be called for pick up.
*Please be aware that the Center's gallery is primarily, though not totally, a sales gallery and that an adequate body of work must be for sale. The Center is a non-profit organization. We will retain a tax-deductible contribution to our organization of 33% of the sale. You must calculate this contribution into your pricing.
Exhibit Guidelines
- Gallery standards suggest that fine art works have simple frames with neutral (not colored) mats.
- If applicable, 2-D work must be protected by Plexiglas, not glass.
- All 2-D work must be hung with wire, NO
SAW TOOTH HANGERS ALLOWED
- Art work must be original and created within the last 2 years.
- Works must NOT have been shown before at the CVA.
- The CVA reserves the right not to display any work which fails to meet jury committee slides expectations.
Jury process
All artists wishing to display their work in the CVA
gallery must complete the jury process.
The
jury committee meets quarterly. You will receive written
notification of the jury’s
decision within one to two months of the meeting. The
notification process is directly related to the number of
artists who have submitted work.
Thank you
for considering a display of your work at the CVA. We have
developed a strong reputation for showing new talent and
inspirational artists and we hope that we will be able to
assist you in the advancement of your artistic career.
Gift Shop
Jury Form
The mission of the CVA is to “promote and sustain the

recognized art center and we are dedicated to promoting
local and regional artists in our Gallery Shop. We are
pleased that you wish to submit your work for jury committee
evaluation.
Work
can be dropped off at anytime during gift shop hours.
The Gift Shop committee meets every other month or once we
have over 3 artists to review. The CVA shop coordinator
will contact each artist and notify him/her of the jury’s
decision. If declined, artists are welcome to resubmit at
any time. However, art that has not been accepted must be
retrieved immediately from the Gallery Shop.
Pieces may be declined if:
· CVA
currently stocks enough similar pieces
· The
piece is not ready for immediate sale
· The
price is too high for CVA market
· The
piece is too fragile
· The
piece does not fit CVA market
· Workmanship
is not up to CVA standards
Please note that pieces that have been declined must be
retrieved immediately. Artists who have failed to claim
their pieces will be billed shipping costs accordingly.
The Center for the Visual Arts receives a 33% commission
from all sales. Please include this in your retail price.
However, the CVA is a non-profit organization. Therefore,
the commission may be claimed as a tax-deductible
contribution.
