My elderly friend, Phyllis Ravey, says I have art in my heart and need to get it out.

I like to put strange bedfellows together, use quality materials, create things that hold fascination. I continue to learn from others and get speechless from seeing beautiful creations.

I must thirst for new directions because I move to new techniques, new approaches and, of course, new tools, thousands of new tools. While you may be able to recognize a "Joan North design," you will see that I add something new every year, some becoming a permanent part of the repertoire and others starring only briefly.

Like many artists, I am giddy when “this & that” become a captivating piece of art. This shift in the piece’s identity, this elevation of ordinary substances into a higher realm seems miraculous. The end piece becomes much more than the sum of its parts.

The parts are arranged in certain ways because of my own instinct, preferences, and practice. Given the same parts, each individual would probably create something different. So the transformations you see are both miraculous and personal.

Thanks to you for admiring and buying my creations. It warms my heart to share the art in my heart with you.
