Horizon Lines: From Life and the Studio

may 18 - july 15, 2012

gallery gala: friday, may 18, 5-7pm

Four artists working en plein air (our doors) and in the studio showcase the qualities of pastel and oil painting from precision detail to broad painterly abstraction. With a focus on natural horizon lines, the artists explore many environments, seasons, and times. Paintings so enticing you can taste the summer grass and feel the cool night air.
Featuring: Kay Brathol-Hostvet, Jan Norsetter, Diane Washa, Jonathan Wilde

Class Act: Art by Marathon County Educators

july 20 - september 9, 2012

gallery gala: friday, july 27, 5-7pm

Art educators in Marathon County for grades K-12 in public and private schools share their talent with more than their students in the CVA Gallery. Educators working in all mediums and styles display what they are teaching the children of Marathon County through art: Technical art skills, perception, research, diligence, confidence, history, art as a tool to reinforce other areas of education, and more! What would Marathon County be without its art educators?!

Buxtehude: The Reuniting

september 14 - november 3, 2012

gallery gala: friday, september 21, 5-7pm

"There is a mystery here, and in all my best work, which I, too, am forbidden to understand."

So wrote the man behind the enigmatic paintings signed "BUXTEHUDE."

The artist himself might hope we would view his oil canvases "with a gasp of astonishment, a moment of recognizing something as absolutely right, while never having seen it that way before." These remarkable narrative paintings are compelling and brilliantly accomplished, both luscious and disturbing.

Form and Function

november 9 - december 29, 2012

gallery gala: friday, november 16, 5-7pm

Form follows function. Function meets form. It’s all in how you look at it. A variety of fine crafts men and women push the boundaries of what is aesthetic and what is utilitarian. Vases so distinct they are stand alone sculptures. Jewelry so detailed it tells a story. Textiles so luscious they should be framed wall pieces. Form and Function working in perfect harmony.
