Artists Among Us: Helen Klebesadel

We were thrilled to welcome Helen Klebesadel to the CVA as the first presesnter in our Artist Among Us series!

Helen is currently one of the exhibiting artists for The Flowers Are Burning, a moving and thought-provoking show currently on display in our Main Gallery. She was kind enough to spend some time demonstrating her watercolor process and leading a short discussion session through the gallery show.

We are excited to share pictures from the event and some video excerpts from her demo and the speech she and Mary Kay Neumann gave at Friday night's opening gala of the exhibit.

Thanks to all who could attend. Check our website or like our facebook page to find out about other free events the CVA is hosting throughout the year.

Wausau Artrageous Weekend

What a fabulous Artrageous Weekend we had this year! With lovely weather, great food vendors, and amazing art, we were sad to see it end!

The Center for the Visual Arts is proud to be a partner with other great art organizations in town like the Festival of Arts, Art in the Park, and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum.

All weekend long, Valerie Berkely was on hand in our Main Gallery to talk about her work in MANimal, demonstrate her technique, and give information about Art Classes and Events at the CVA.

Meanwhile, we had a great bunch of volunteers manning our Lemonade Stand! Over two days, they sold lemonade and hot apple cider to Festival of Arts patrons. The money they raised helps keep the CVA operating and providing free exhibits and affordable art education. THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS!

Thanks to everyone who helped out or visited stalls or bought something, and reminded us how lucky we are to be in such a wonderful arts community!

Expressions Day of Art for Art Educators

The CVA was thrilled to welcome the Wausau School District's Art Educators for our first ever Expressions Day of Art for Art Educators!

We had 16 Art Educators participate in a day of education, collaboration, and expression!

The educators were treated to a lunch provided by CVA volunteers and board members. They then had an opportunity to walk through the CVA and learn about the services the CVA provides the community.

Each teacher received a packet of information regarding art opportunities coming up in Wausau and Wisconsin this year.

Each teacher also received a sketchbook journal and were led in  an art journaling workshop by Nancy Laliberte. Nancy encouraged the educators to remember to take time to focus on themselves and their art so they could  be better educators for their students.

After the journaling workshop, the educators had open studio time to work on art using the CVA's tools and materials. They were also invited to work with Valerie Berkely on a collaborative painting or with Ron Hay in the pottery studio to create bowls for the Empty Bowls project. This project is a collaboration between the CVA and The Neighbor's place, and we were glad our art educators were able to participate!

The day concluded with a reception in our loft gallery, where the educators could connect with one another and discuss what they had been inspired to take back to their classrooms!

The CVA would like to thank all the Wausau Schools' art educators for making our first Expressions Day of Art for Art Educators so successful! We appreciate all you do for our young art students!

Lake Effect Exclusive Gallery Tour

To wrap up our Lake Effect exhibit featuring new works by Valerie Berkely, the CVA hosted a tour of the gallery for Elite Members of the CVA.

Valerie showed members around the gallery, sharing personal anecdotes behind some of her works and the success she has had by being at the CVA to engage and teach within the exhibit. TJ "Rasta" Roovers also shared his process for creating the magnificent fire pit on display in the gallery, as well as his Little Rib River Wooden Bench, which he kindly donated to the CVA to be part of our raffle.

It was a wonderful night of good food, great conversation, and beautiful works of art!

The night was capped off with door prizes and the drawings of our bench and kayak raffle. Congratulations to Yvonne Leverett, who won our kayak, and Nancy Dolenshek, who won our wooden bench!
