Curator of Art

Reports To: Executive Director
Salary: $13.00/hr


The Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) is seeking an exempt part-time Curator of Art to enhance our thriving visual arts nonprofit serving North Central Wisconsin. The Curator of Art would be directly responsible for the oversight and management of the CVA’s Caroline S. Mark, Loft, Vault, and Skylight Galleries working closely with the Executive Director.

The Curator of Art will focus on promoting the mission of the CVA by seeking unique visual artists for the galleries and serving visitors of the CVA with excellent customer service skills. The Curator of Art will also assist in seeking gallery and exhibit sponsors. The Curator of Art will be directly involved in CVA events and community activities such as Chalkfest, Wausau Artrageous Weekend, Wausau Area Events, and more.

Additional responsibilities include the support of CVA databases and correspondence.  The Curator of Art will work closely with other members of the CVA staff in performance of his/her duties. The position is part time, reports directly to the Executive Director and will work as a member of the CVA team.


-Bachelor degree preferred in art, art history, museum studies, or a related field.
-Professional gallery experience with a principal focus on craft, design, and art.
-Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and procedures involved in the interpretation and exhibition of art for diverse audiences.
-Strong written/oral communication and organizational skills and public speaking abilities.
-Ability to manage a budget and work within the means of a nonprofit organization.
-Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, visitors, volunteers, donors, professional colleagues, and other members of the arts community.
-Strong organizational, planning, and research skills.
-Must have excellent work habits, including a willingness to work the hours necessary to get the job done, especially when important deadlines cause greater than normal departmental pressures. Be able to work flexible hours including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
