In this three-week course, students will learn how to make both sculptural and functional work through the use of basic hand-building and throwing techniques. Directed projects and creative experimentation will be encouraged as each child’s understanding of the medium evolves. The wonderful world of glazing and surface treatment will also be explored!

Week 1: Textures & Form (Pinch Bowls & Textured Wall Hangings)

Students craft nestable pinch bowls and decorative wall hangings or wind chime tiles, using stamps, carved tools, and organic materials to press patterns into wet clay.

Week 2: Spooky Potions & Haunted Jars (Potion Mugs & Lidded Treasure Jars)

Working with fresh clay, students slab-build a custom "potion mug" featuring a coiled snake or twig handle, or whatever they desire! They will also construct then construct a haunted house or cauldron-inspired lidded jar to hold Halloween treats.

Week 3: Wheel Try-It & Glaze Studio (Wheel & Surface Finishing)

Students take turns on the potter’s wheel for a hands-on introduction to centering, opening, and pulling clay, while applying food-safe glazes and underglazes to their bisque-fired creations from Weeks 1 and 2.
